The Fano Marine Center (FMC) is a joint research Laboratory for the study of marine biodiversity, resources and biotechnologies.
The Center was born from the agreement signed among the University of Bologna, the University of Urbino “Carlo Bo”, the Marche Polytechnic University, The Zoological Station Anton Dohrn, the National Research Council, and the Fano Municipality.
It hosts multidisciplinary, integrated, cooperative research on marine biodiversity, resources and biotechnologies, for a sustainable development of Blue Growth in the Adriatic Sea. The specific scientific fields of researchers are many and span from marine biology and ecology to the study of marine microorganism genome, from aquaculture to pharmaceuticals derived by marine microorganisms, from citizen science to bioremediation in marine sediments and matrixes, from the study of marine biomineralization mechanisms to the technological and biotechnological applications of biominerals, to circular economy.
The Fano Marine Center is national and international excellence research hub, reference point in the Mediterranean Sea for the studies of marine ecology and biology, both basics and applied to the management of marine resources and to Blue Growth in relation to global changes.
